Bangkok seeks help identifying victims of deadly train-bus crash
The identities of the eight people killed in the freight train and bus collision in Bangkok have not yet been officially verified, prompting Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt to urge anyone whose family members may have boarded a route 206 bus and have not returned home to contact authorities.
Chadchart said last night that officials were still working to verify the identities of the victims following the devastating accident.
“Because the identities of the eight deceased victims are still unclear, if anyone has relatives who may have travelled on bus route 206 and have not returned home tonight, please contact us immediately,” he said.
The eight victims were passengers on the bus, which was engulfed by flames following the collision. Their bodies were burned beyond recognition.
The accident occurred near Makkasan station in Ratchathewi district when a freight train struck the bus at a railway crossing, sparking a massive fire that killed eight people and injured 32 others.
The governor’s office has released a list of those injured. While some have already been discharged from hospital, it is reported that two remain in a critical condition.
The injured included passengers on the bus as well as motorists whose vehicles were caught in traffic at the scene of the accident.
Chadchart said multiple agencies are coordinating with each other to assist victims and their families, while authorities were also working to clear the area and restore traffic flow by morning.
