Supreme Court rules in favour of MRT-BEM deal for Orange Line extension

The Supreme Administrative Court upheld the Central Administrative Court’s ruling today, allowing the Mass Rapid Transit Authority (MRT) to sign a contract with Bangkok Expressway and Metro Public Company (BEM) for the construction of the Orange Line extension, from Bang Khun Non to Min Buri.

A lawsuit was filed in the Central Administrative Court by Bangkok Mass Transit System Company (BTSC) against the MRT, over its invitation for interested parties to bid for the construction of the extension and for allegedly changing the bidder qualifications. The BTSC claimed that the actions by the MRT caused damage to the company.

The Central Administrative Court, however, ruled that the MRT did nothing wrong and that its actions did not cause any damage to BTSC as claimed.

The Supreme Administrative Court agreed with the Central Administrative Court, which now paves the way for the MRT to proceed with the signing of a deal to build the extension.
