Vote recount in Bangkok today, fresh elections in Nan and Udon Thani
People’s party candidate in Bangkok’s Constituency 15, Vittawat Tichawanich, came first in the vote recount for polling station 10 in Kanna Yao district today.
The recount ended at 11.30am with Vittawat receiving 224 votes, followed by Phonpoom Vipattipumiprates of Pheu Thai (103 votes) and Tanom Onketpol of Bhumjaithai (81 votes).
Out of 753 eligible voters, only 523 cast ballots. 486 ballots were valid and eight invalid. There were 29 blank ballot sheets.
In the party-list vote recount, the People’s Party came first with 233 votes, followed by 95 for Bhumjaithai and 60 for Pheu Thai.
In the referendum recount, 336 votes opted for charter rewrite, against 167 nay votes. 21 ballots were blank. Eligible voters number 753, but only 527 cast ballots.
Meanwhile, fresh elections were held today in Constituency 1 of Nan province and Constituency 6 in Udon Thani province.
The new election was staged in Nan’s Constituency 1 because the election committee ordered suspension of the vote count on February 8th when it was discovered that 69 marked ballots were torn to the extent that the committee could not determine their validity.
The Nan election committee chair said he expects the election results to be known by about 7pm tonight.
It is reported that the ballots used in the fresh election were not printed with bar or QR codes.
Additionally, a new election officials were used to supervise the election, which went smoothly.
The Election Commission has completely banned voters from taking photos of their marked ballots with their cellphones or other devices, warning that violators may face a jail term of one year and/or a fine of 20,000 if convicted.
