美國運輸部長達菲（Sean Duffy）證實這起事故。墜機地點位於棕櫚灘郡（Palm Beach County）克雷斯特黑文（Cresthaven）社區附近，距離美國總統川普（Donald Trump）位於棕櫚灘的海湖莊園（Mar-a-Lago）約14公里，事故發生於當地時間1日上午12點50分左右。
美國聯邦航空總署（FAA）表示，失事機型為里爾60型（Learjet 60）商務噴射機，當時從德州奧斯汀起飛，原定飛往巴哈馬。現場影像顯示，住宅區道路出現1個宛如隕石坑的大洞，地面散布混凝土碎片、機體殘骸，部分區域還竄出火焰。美國媒體報導及航班數據分析顯示，客機墜毀前以每秒幾百英尺的速度急速下墜。
社群媒體流傳1段尚未獲得證實的行車紀錄器畫面，疑似拍下墜機瞬間，只見車輛行經住宅區道路時，1架飛機突然近乎垂直地俯衝撞向地面，隨即爆炸，形成巨大火球。

佛州州長形容「飛彈般墜落」 爆炸威力波及周邊設施
佛羅里達州州長迪尚特（Ron DeSantis）在事故後的記者會上說，看到相關影片讓人震驚，「就像1枚飛彈直直墜落，接著發生大規模爆炸，碎片四處飛散」。目前尚不清楚機上乘客身分，迪尚特表示，截至目前為止，當局還未接獲任何地面人員死亡或受傷的通報。棕櫚灘郡消防救援單位已宣布啟動「大量傷亡事件」應變機制。
迪尚特及地方官員指出，事故發生後，當局緊急疏散附近1處拖車住宅社區，約600名居民受到影響。
墜機衝擊也造成當地基礎設施嚴重受損，包括供水管線等設施，失事地點所在的軍事步道（Military Trail）是1條設有商家與餐飲店的6線道道路，預計至少需要30天才能重新開放。當地當時曾發布雷雨警報，記者會進行期間也持續降下大雨。

美國運輸部長達菲形容這起事故是「讓人痛心的悲劇」，表示聯邦航空總署將派遣調查小組前往現場，協助國家運輸安全委員會（NTSB）釐清事故原因。他也呼籲外界為罹難者家屬及親友祈禱。
另一方面，川普當天上午曾待在海湖莊園，並於墜機事故發生約1小時前，搭乘空軍一號（Air Force One）從附近機場離開。目前還不清楚當時的雷雨天候是否與事故有關，詳細墜機原因仍待調查單位進一步釐清。

GREENACRES, Fla. — A Learjet 60 crashed hard into a mobile home community in Palm Beach County on Sunday afternoon, slamming into the ground in a massive fireball that destroyed at least one home and left multiple people dead, authorities said.
