美國德州中南部3日夜晚在短短幾個小時內降下數月的雨量引發暴洪。截至4日晚間，已知造成至少24人死亡，25人失蹤。當局表示，在這場突如其來的暴雨前，天氣預報「並未預測到我們所看到的雨量」，不料暴雨來襲時，瓜達魯普河水位迅速升至嚴重洪水警戒線以上，幾乎沒有任何預警，導致當局無法提前發布撤離命令。
路透社報導，德州副州長派屈克（Dan Patrick）4日下午表示，這場3日晚間下的暴雨，在4日凌晨4點時，導致當地瓜達魯普河（Guadalupe River）沿岸引發暴洪，當時一所專門位女孩設立的私人基督教夏令營「神秘營」（Camp Mystic）設置在岸邊，當中超過750名兒童中，有23-25人失蹤。克爾郡（Kerr County）警長萊沙（Larry Leitha）4日晚間表示，已確認因洪災死亡的人數為24人。英國廣播公司報導，截至目前， 共有237人獲救或疏散。德州州長艾波特（Greg Abbott）表示，搜救工作不會間斷（non-stop）。

美國國家氣象局（U.S. National Weather Service）針對德州中南部丘陵地區的克爾郡（Kerr County）部分地區發布了突發洪水緊急警報。該地區距離聖安東尼奧（San Antonio）約105公里西北方，因雷暴降下多達一英尺（約304.8毫米）的暴雨而引發洪災。

克爾郡首府克爾維爾市（Kerrville）市長萊斯（Dalton Rice）向記者表示，這場嚴重洪災發生在黎明前，但由於瓜達魯普河水位迅速升至嚴重洪水警戒線以上，幾乎沒有任何預警，導致當局無法提前發布撤離命令。萊斯說，「這起事件發生得非常迅速，在非常短的時間內發生，即使是雷達也無法預測。整個過程不到2個小時。」派屈克也解釋，瓜達魯普河水位在45分鐘內上升了約8公尺。
