EC requests clarification from five parties on campaign policies
The Election Commission (EC)’s committee tasked with reviewing political party campaign policies has decided to return the proposals submitted by five parties for urgent clarification.
The information they have requested must be submitted before the Election Commission's full board meeting on January 30.
The parties and the respective policies in question are:
· The People’s party: Policies on increasing elderly allowances, large-scale projects to improve the quality of life, a co-payment scheme for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and the receipt-based lottery project.
· The Thai Population party: A welfare policy providing 5,000 baht per month for the elderly.
· The Pracha Thai party: A policy offering 3,000 baht in monthly support for senior citizens.
· The Thai Tham party: A proposal for a 4,000-baht monthly pension for the elderly.
· The Volunteer Nation Population party: Free education up to bachelor degree level under the “One Village, One Graduate” project.
EC Secretary General Sawaeng Boonmee stated that the committee has raised concerns over potential budgetary risks, noting that some policies appeared unrealistic.
He emphasised that each party must provide more detailed explanations regarding the sources of funding to support their proposed policies.
