Thai PM to begin two-day Vietnam visit tomorrow
Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul will make a two-day official visit to Hanoi on June 8 to further strengthen bilateral ties with Vietnam, according to an informed Thai diplomatic source.
Anutin will hold talks with President and Communist Party General Secretary To Lam after arriving in the Vietnamese capital on Monday. The visit comes hot on the heels of To Lam's three-day trip to Bangkok from May 27 to 29.
On Tuesday, he is scheduled to deliver a keynote speech at the opening session of the ASEAN Future Forum. The event is organised by the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam and focuses on issues related to ASEAN affairs.
The source said Anutin will discuss ASEAN's resilience and the bloc's ability to maintain stability and cohesion in a fragmented world. He will also highlight Thailand's strong support for ASEAN's economic, political-security and socio-cultural pillars.
During To Lam's visit, the two countries agreed to further strengthen political trust by maintaining high-level and working-level exchanges through all channels.
They also agreed to deepen defence and security cooperation, strengthen coordination in combating transnational crime, cybercrime and drug trafficking, and enhance cooperation to improve maritime safety.
Thailand and Vietnam elevated their relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership last year.
