Undecided voters trail Chadchart in latest Bangkok poll
With the Bangkok gubernatorial election just three weeks away, former Bangkok governor Chadchart Sittipunt continues to lead the polls by a wide margin, according to the latest survey conducted by the National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA).
The NIDA Poll found that Chadchart, who is seeking a second term as an independent candidate, would be the choice of 67.30% of the 2,000 respondents surveyed across Bangkok's 50 districts.
The survey found that:
• 10.20% of respondents have not yet decided whom they will vote for.
• 8.20% support the People's Party candidate, Chaiwat Sathawornwichit.
• 7.32% said they would vote for independent candidate Mallika Boonmeetrakool Mahasook.
• Democrat Party candidate Anucha Burapachaisri ranked fifth with 3.10%.
• M.L. Kornkasiwat Kasemsri, an independent candidate, was in sixth place with 1.55%.
• 1.30% supported other candidates, including independent candidate Pasapong Chaiviriyavanich; Pol Lt Gen Charnthep Sesavech of the Economics Party; and independent candidates Lalana Mongkolhasadin, Somchai Charoenworakiat and Srirat Changpetch.
The poll was conducted from June 2 to 4 among 2,000 Bangkok residents aged 18 and above.
For the election of city councillors, the poll found that 29.10% preferred independent candidates, 26.50% supported People's Party candidates, 18.35% remained undecided, 11.50% planned to vote for Democrat candidates and 6.05% favoured Pheu Thai candidates.
