This assurance was made during a bilateral meeting between Macron and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet in Nice, France, where Hun Manet was attending the Third United Nations Ocean Conference.
“I can confirm that President Macron expressed France’s willingness to support the process by providing relevant documents to both Cambodia and Thailand as needed,” Khmer Times quoted Cambodian Minister Jean François Tan as saying.
Tan said on June 12 in Phnom Penh that Hun Manet raised the border issue with other world leaders, reaffirming Cambodia’s commitment to resolving its ongoing dispute with Thailand.
“At the very least, with the French president, it is true that the prime minister raised the current issues between Cambodia and Thailand,” Tan said.
“However, I must emphasise that the prime minister addressed the matter solely to state Cambodia’s position—nothing more was intended.”
Cambodia’s four-point stance on resolving the border dispute with Thailand, as previously outlined by Hun Manet, includes a firm commitment to peace, friendship, and good cooperation with Thailand.
Cambodia’s decision to bring the issue of Preah Vihear Temple, Ta Moan Thom Temple, Ta Moan Tauch Temple, Ta Krabei Temple, and the Emerald Triangle area before the International Court of Justice (ICJ) seeks a peaceful and permanent resolution to the border problem—rather than leaving the dispute unresolved for a prolonged period, which could reignite armed conflict.
The country will continue cooperation with Thailand to expedite border demarcation and the placement of boundary markers in the remaining areas (excluding the four disputed zones), using the existing Cambodia-Thailand Joint Border Commission (JBC) mechanism.
