Thailand hopes US-Iran deal brings lasting regional stability

Thailand has welcomed an agreement reached between the United States and Iran to end their conflict, expressing hope that the deal will bring lasting peace and stability to the Middle East and safeguard global economic interests.

In a statement issued on June 15, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Thailand "warmly welcomes" the agreement and commends the constructive roles played by Pakistan and Oman in mediating the negotiations.

Thailand also praised the efforts of all parties involved in pursuing dialogue and diplomacy to ease tensions and resolve differences through peaceful means.

"The agreement should be fully implemented in accordance with international law and the Charter of the United Nations," the ministry said, adding that it hopes the deal will strengthen mutual trust among all parties.

Thailand further expressed hope that the agreement would contribute to long-term peace and stability in the region, support global economic stability and ensure freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's most strategically important maritime routes.

The statement came after Washington and Tehran announced an agreement to end months of hostilities that had heightened fears of a wider regional conflict and disrupted global energy markets.

The conflict escalated following a series of military exchanges between the two countries, raising concerns among governments and businesses worldwide over the potential impact on oil supplies and international shipping.

The Strait of Hormuz, which links the Persian Gulf to global markets, is a critical chokepoint through which a significant portion of the world's crude oil and liquefied natural gas exports passes.

Thailand, which relies heavily on imported energy and international trade, has consistently advocated dialogue, diplomacy and adherence to international law in resolving international disputes.
