Bangkok Bank delays Bt2,000 minimum for digital accounts
The Bangkok Bank has decided to postpone indefinitely a new policy that was to have come into effect on April 9, requiring owners of “e-Savings” and “Bua Luang Extra Digital” online bank accounts to maintain a minimum positive balance of 2,000 baht at all times.
Chaiyarit Anuchitworawong, senior executive vice president of the bank, said today that the bank had carefully reviewed the policy, found that it could inconvenience customers and decided to delay its implementation.
He also said that the bank had initially considered introducing the policy in the belief that it would help prevent scammers from using online bank accounts as “mule” accounts to park money defrauded from victims.
