Thai coconut price on the rise

The oversupply problem of locally grown Nam Hom coconuts has been steadily addressed, thanks to measures implemented by the Commerce Ministry that have helped shore up market prices.

Wittayakorn Maneenetr, director-general of the ministry’s Department of Internal Trade, told the media that a new deal has been reached with modern trade outlets, with promising prospects of further boosting domestic retail prices of Thai Nam Hom coconuts.

Under the deal, he said, participating modern trade stores will double their annual purchases of locally grown coconuts, from about 3 million to 6 million, to be distributed to 2,600 branches nationwide, offering consumers more reasonable prices.

Coconut growers will also be provided with designated spaces at branches of modern trade stores in Bangkok and nearby provinces to directly sell their produce and processed coconut products to consumers.

The director general said the new measure, set to begin next month, is expected not only to quickly boost domestic demand for the popular Nam Hom coconut, but also to raise its average retail price.

Updated data show that the average price of Nam Hom coconuts at plantations has now doubled to 4–5 baht each, from 2–3 baht earlier in 2026, increasing income for local growers.
