Authorities have added 11 tilt and subsidence sensors to monitor buildings around the Wongwian Yai intersection, where emergency crews successfully removed a pedestrian bridge this morning.

The urgent intervention was undertaken after water leaked into the under-construction MRT Purple Line extension tunnel on 8 July, which caused subsidence of the ground above.

Emergency workers from the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) and the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM), alongside engineering experts from the Engineering Institute of Thailand (EIT) and Kasetsart University, deployed to the site on Prajadhipok Road at 7.30am today.

The coordinated operation focused on the scheduled demolition of the overpass, to prevent further structural hazards.

To ensure safety, disaster response and EIT officials have expanded their monitoring network significantly.

A total of 11 tilt and subsidence sensors have been installed across nine critical points around the sinking structure and adjacent buildings, providing high-precision data to track any further movement.

Teerapat Kachamat, director general of the DDPM, stated that the latest measurements show the affected buildings at the Wongwian Yai intersection remain stable, with the displacement value holding steady at 8.3.

Officials added that light rainfall this morning did not disrupt the ongoing emergency operations.
