More mislabeled canned fish found in Samut Songkhram
A People’s party MP in Samut Songkhram province has claimed that canned fish, labelled as being “sardines in tomato sauce”, that he purchased has been found to contain a different fish species, which could be a tilapia or blackchin tilapia.
In his Facebook post today, Anupap Likit-amnuaychai, urged Thailand’s Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Fisheries Department to investigate the canned fish product, which he claims was manufactured at a different cannery from those in Samut Sakhon which contain tilapia and were labelled as mackerel.
The People’s party MP said that the canned fish he bought was clearly marked as sardines, but when opened the tin the fish looked like tilapia or blackchin tilapia.
Anupap’s post was widely shared on social media and has gone viral attracting widespread public attention.
Anupap said he does not think it was an unintentional mistake by the manufacturer, but was a deliberate attempt to deceive the public.
Anyone who finds that the product they purchase does not match the label can lodge a complaint by calling Hotlines 1166 or 1556, filing via the application OCPB Connect or the website ocpb.go.th.
