ASEAN pushes for immediate ceasefire between Thailand and Cambodia

The statement was issued on Monday, ahead of truce talks between the two countries in Malaysia, with Malaysia, the current ASEAN chair, acting as mediator.
In a joint statement, the ASEAN foreign ministers urge both countries to cease all hostilities and return to dialogue, to prevent further conflict and destruction.
“We note the urgent need for both sides to exercise maximum restraint and accept an immediate ceasefire,” the statement read.
The ASEAN foreign ministers also expressed support for Malaysia’s efforts to mediate and bring both sides to the negotiating table.
