He is quoted to have said, in essence, that Thai people have also encroached on Cambodian territory, as have the Cambodians on Thai territory and it is fair for the two peoples to move back to their respective countries and their governments should find new land on which they can settle.
Upon his return from the APEC meeting in South Korea last night, the prime minister said he was sorry for his miscommunication, as he offered an assurance that Thailand will not lose any territory in talks with Cambodia, including the Ta Kwai ancient ruins in Si Sa Ket province.
He described as welcome the news Cambodia’s commencement of the withdraw of some heavy weapons from border areas yesterday adding, however, that the government will need to listen to public opinion as to whether and when borders with Cambodia will be reopened.
Regarding the MoU on rare-earth elements with the United States, the prime minister said it was just an outline for cooperation between the two countries for future investment in the extraction and processing of critical minerals in Thailand, which must comply with Thai law.
He insisted that his government is still pursuing the policy of maintaining balance with the two super powers, US and China, while cultivating closer relations with leaders of other countries.
Regarding his visit to South Korea, during the APEC meeting, Anutin said he had opportunities to meet with several government leaders and explore opportunities for economic, trade and tourism promotions.
