NSB to challenge decision not to indict former People's Party candidate
The Police Narcotics Suppression Bureau (NSB) will raise an objection with the attorney-general over public prosecutors' decision not to indict former People's Party candidate Boonyarit Raorungrot on drug trafficking and money laundering charges.
NSB Commissioner Pol Lt-Gen Archayon Kraithong said today that the case against Boonyarit is not over, despite prosecutors' decision to drop the charges.
He said the NSB would submit its objection directly to the attorney-general, seeking a review of the decision, while prosecutors have agreed to pursue other charges.
Pol Lt-Gen Archayon said anti-narcotics officers had expanded their investigation into ten narcotics cases and traced financial transactions to an organised network of 11 suspects, including Boonyarit.
He added that the investigation led the Criminal Court to issue arrest warrants for all 11 suspects, who were subsequently arrested.
The case was forwarded by police to prosecutors in March this year, but prosecutors decided to drop the charges against Boonyarit on the grounds that he had been detained beyond the permissible time limit and that there were doubts regarding the charges against him.
