Thai QR transactions by foreign visitors jump 143% year-on-year
Thailand’s cross-border QR payment app is gaining popularity among international visitors, particularly tourists from China.
“Thai QR,” a domestically developed cross-border QR payment application, is being used more frequently by inbound travellers to the kingdom, according to National ITMX (NITMX), the developer and service provider of the platform.
NITMX told the media this week that total transactions made by inbound travellers through the service exceeded 809 million baht in December 2025, representing a 143% year-on-year increase.
Visitors from China topped the list of users, accounting for more than 409 million baht in transactions, followed by travellers from Malaysia and Laos, with over 174 million baht and more than 70 million baht respectively.
The company said the latest data reflects a strengthening link between Thailand’s financial system and the global financial infrastructure, reinforcing the country’s role as a digital payment hub in Asia with internationally recognised safety and security standards.
Thai QR has also proven effective in reducing cross-border transaction barriers faced by international tourists, while creating greater opportunities for Thailand’s domestic business and tourism sectors.
As a growing Thai service provider for interbank transaction management and exchange, NITMX has steadily expanded cooperation with foreign partners, including UnionPay International in China, Ant International through Alipay on the Alipay+ platform, and Tenpay Payment Technology via WeChat Pay.
