Suvarnabhumi upgraded to a 4-star airport

Suvarnabhumi international has been upgraded from a three to a four-star airport by Skytrax, a UK-based research organisation that provides ratings and awards for airlines and airports worldwide, based on professional analyses and customer surveys.

Paweena Jariyathitipong, acting managing director of Airports of Thailand Company (AOT), said today that that the improved rating is attributed to the development and improvement of facilities and services at the airport, ranging from the quality of immigration services and security officials and the installation of new technology, to speed up passport processing, to direction signs, improved toilets, charging points for electronic gadgets and Wi-Fi internet connections.

She also said that the AOT has plans to allocate space for children and a gaming zone, a relaxing co-working space and an exhibition zone for contemporary arts.

Suvarnabhumi international airport currently handles about 60 million passengers each year. It is the main airport in Thailand with worldwide and domestic connections, said Paweena, adding that the AOT aims to improve the airport further, to achieve a 5-star rating in the near future.
