Bangkok’s Yellow Line transit system to begin public trials on Saturday
The Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA) will launch a trial run of the Yellow Line train service from Hua Mark to Samrong tomorrow (Saturday), initially covering 13 of its 23 stations. The launch coincides with the birthday of Her Majesty the Queen.
The public can ride the new elevated train service free of charge between 9am and 8pm. More stations will added to the trial in the future and the public will be notified of the available service, said the MRTA.
The first 13 stations to open for the trial run include Hua Mark, Kalantan, Sri Nut, Srinagarindra 38, Rama 9, Sri Udom, Sri Iam, Sri Lasalle, Sri Baring, Sridan, Sri Thepa, Sri Thippawan and Samrong.
The 30.4km Yellow Line runs from Lat Phrao to Samrong in Samut Prakan. It was designed as a secondary mass transit system, to enable passengers from eastern Bangkok and inner parts of Samut Prakan to link with the other train services.
In addition to the 23 stations, there are two park-and-ride facilities, at Sri Iam and Lat Phrao stations.
