The Small Unmanned Aerial Systems program office at Naval Air Systems Command granted the drone flight approval after rigorous design, assembly, and testing processes, amassing over 1,000 hours to ensure NDAA compliance. With this essential approval secured, the Innovation Campus has set forth guidelines enabling any U.S. Marine unit to manufacture, maintain, and deploy these modular drones autonomously.
HANX’s modular design is a noteworthy feature, facilitating quick adaptations for a variety of mission profiles-from reconnaissance to logistical support and even one-way strikes.
U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Henry David Volpe, who led the development of HANX, noted that explosive ordnance disposal Marines are preparing to acquire 20 units to use for deploying explosives, showcasing the drone’s versatility as a low-cost alternative to contractor-purchased options.
