A new interceptor capable of reaching speeds of up to 270 kilometers (168 miles) per hour is being positioned as the UK’s last line of defense against short-range, Class 1 drone threats.
The AeroStrike system, developed by Drone Defence, provides point-defense coverage for protecting critical sites, convoys, and forward-deployed units that require a fast-reacting effector.
The interceptor can remain airborne for up to 10 minutes within a 13-kilometer (8-mile) operating range, enabling rapid response to time-sensitive threats and mid-air repositioning. Operators can control AeroStrike using first-person-view software, while the system’s AeroTracker application supports automated terminal guidance during the final phase of flight.
The system can integrate with external radars and electro-optical/infrared sensors, allowing it to receive targeting data from sources beyond its onboard systems.
Company-released footage showed the interceptor launching from both ground-based launchers and enclosed automated boxes, with Drone Defence stating that it can be deployed from virtually any surface.
The entire system stands just over 5 inches (12.7 centimeters) tall and weighs around 1.4 kilograms (3.1 pounds), underscoring its focus on portability and rapid deployment.
"AeroStrike prioritizes speed, agility, and control where electronic countermeasures are ineffective, restricted, or unavailable," the company stated.
