【US Stock News】HBM demand is sizzling, SK Hynix's 2024 capacity for HBM3 and HBM3E is fully loaded!

The trade war between China and the US and the regulations and bans imposed by both countries have long been the focus of the market's attention. However, the high-bandwidth memory (HBM) used in AI server GPUs is not restricted by US bans. It seems like the US is easing restrictions on memory, no longer categorizing it as a highly concerning industry. But in reality, the demand for HBM itself has already exceeded supply, making it difficult for Chinese companies to purchase. As a result, in the effort to comply with regulations, AI might shift towards using GDDR or older versions of HBM as substitutes.
Regarding the market potential of HBM, SK Hynix expects HBM to account for 15-19% of the entire DRAM market share in 2024. SK Hynix's HBM3 and HBM3E capacities for 2024 are already fully booked, and customers are discussing additional demands. Market estimates suggest that the supply of HBM in 2024 will more than double year-over-year, but the new capacities won't start coming online until the second quarter of 2024.
Overall, the demand for products like HBM2E, HBM3 to HBM3E, and HBM4 is transitioning rapidly. Many customers and collaborating companies have already started discussing technological cooperation and capacity planning for 2025. Even top-tier cloud suppliers like Google (GOOG), Amazon (AMZN), AWS, and META have their HBM capacity booked until 2025 or the launch of HBM4. Consequently, major memory manufacturers have no surplus capacity left to sell to China.
