scout 球探

scout在一開始是指刺探敵情的偵查兵，而後來在體育界中則變成了偵查球員能力的球探。在選秀前時常可以聽到用來分析備選球員的scouting report、紀錄他們的身高、體重與各項身體素質的數據，就是指球探報告。

screen 掩護

screen最開始是指阻隔火爐熱氣的家具，後來則引申為門簾、紗窗等各種遮蔽物，而當動詞使用時就有了掩護、包庇之意，後來在籃球競技中，就成為替持球者掩護的戰術。

例句：You’ll hear many old-timers lament the “lost art” of proper screen-setting in the NBA.

steal 抄截

原意為偷竊，把別人手裡的球偷走，即為抄截。

stretch four/five 延伸四/五號

stretch是指伸展、延伸，因此stretch four和 stretch five，指的就是能在球場上以外線投籃能力延伸空間的四號、大前鋒與五號、中鋒球員。

例句：A stretch four is a player at the power forward position that can generate offense farther from the basket than a conventional power forward.

一名延伸四號是指能夠遠離籃框還能發揮進攻作用、有別於傳統的大前鋒。

swingman 搖擺人

swing最早是指前後自由移動、後來便成為搖擺的意思，因此swing(搖擺)加上man(人)，就是指能視戰術需求在不同主打位置間搖擺不定的球員。除了籃球之外，這一詞在冰球、澳式足球與棒球中都有出現。在前兩項運動中指的是在進攻和防守時都能上場的球員，在棒球則是指先發後援兩相宜的投手。

在籃球中swingman指得大多是能兼任前鋒、後衛，在兩個領域間切換的球員。因此有別於雙能衛combo guard與雙能鋒tweener，以二、三號球員為主。
