Leading candidate in Phichit constituency 1 seeks ballot recount
Phattraphong Phattraprasit, a Bhumjaithai candidate tipped to win a parliamentary seat for Phichit Constituency 1, has submitted a formal petition to the Election Commission (EC), requesting an investigation and a recount of ballots.
He said he decided to file the petition after online users and several media outlets shared data from EC election results showing a significant discrepancy between the number of voters turnout there and the total votes counted in the constituency.
According to the reported figures, 100,830 voters turned out to cast their ballots. However, the total number of votes counted reached 130,175, exceeding the number of voters.
Unofficial results showed that Phattraphong led with 50,052 votes, followed by a People’s Party candidate with 21,619 votes and a Pheu Thai candidate with 6,055.
Speaking after filing the petition on Monday, Phattraphong said he was seeking clarification and transparency from the EC, urging it to conduct a thorough investigation and order a recount of votes in the constituency to ensure accuracy, transparency, and fairness for all candidates involved.
He emphasised that a recount is necessary to uphold public trust in the electoral process and to guarantee equal and just treatment for every candidate.
