Media tycoon Sondhi sentenced to 4 months in jail for defamation
Media tycoon of the Manager Group, Sondhi Limthongkul, was today sentenced to four months in prison without suspension after the Criminal Court found him guilty of defamation.
He was also ordered to pay two million baht in compensation plus 20,000 baht in legal fees to Thanakorn Nanthee, a former MP of the now defunct Thai Rak Thai party, who filed the defamation suit.
Additionally, Sondhi must publish the court’s verdict in seven newspapers at his own expense.
Sondhi was later released on Bt50,000 bail.
The defamation case was related to Sondhi’s comments on his talk show, in which he implicated Thanakorn of involvement in corruption in five projects, located on an oil palm plantation belonging to the proprietor of a chain of service stations.
