One dead after concrete slab collapses at abandoned building in Bangkok
A worker was killed and another sustained serious injuries when a massive concrete slab collapsed at an abandoned car showroom in Bangkok's Bang Na district this morning.
The ‘Rama 199 Radio Centre’ was alerted to the incident inside Sukhumvit Soi 66/1 on Sukhumvit Road in the Bang Na Nuea sub-district.
Rescue teams and firefighters from Phra Khanong and Bang Na stations were immediately dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, officials discovered that a large concrete panel, measuring one metre wide and six metres long, had fallen.
Two male workers were trapped beneath the heavy debris on the second floor of the old building, which has been unoccupied for several years.
An initial investigation suggests that the victims were part of a crew that had entered the abandoned building to carry out demolition and renovation work.
Authorities are conducting a thorough investigation to determine the exact cause of the structural failure.
