Two soldiers injured by landmine at military base near Cambodian border
Two Thai soldiers were slightly injured when one of them accidentally stepped on an old anti-personnel landmine near the Thai-Cambodian border in the northeastern province of Si Sa Ket today.
According to the Second Army Region, the incident took place at about 10.30am within the Phu Pha base, when troops from the infantry company were clearing land to prepare the ground for a firing position. One of them, identified as Chakkrit Buakaew, a unit commander, accidentally detonated a buried landmine.
The report said that explosion was not strong and only caused minor injuries to Chakkrit and another soldier, identified as Sathit Pongkaew, because it was an old mine embedded in the area for a long time.
Both injured soldiers were transferred to Kantharalak district hospital.
