Wildlife officials have successfully captured a tiger that had strayed from its habitat in Khao Wong National Park in Kamphaeng Phet province.

The tiger is reported to have attacked pigs raised by villagers in a community near the park on the night of February 28.

Park officials were called to Pang Sila Thong district to capture the tiger after villagers in Ban Tak Fah village filed a complaint with local authorities.

The officials set several traps in areas where the tiger had been roaming, and on Monday night, the big cat was ensnared.

According to Chayakorn Armradit, director of Conservation Area 12, the tiger was identified as ‘Pin,’ code number HKT236F. It is a female, about 13 years old, and weighs approximately 95 kg.

The tiger was first photographed by a camera trap in 2017 in Khao Wong National Park.

In December of the same year, it was trapped and fitted with a tracking device to allow officials to monitor its movements and study its behavior. It was photographed again in Huai Kha Kheng Wildlife Sanctuary last December.

Park officials confirmed that the tiger will be released into the wildlife sanctuary, which is connected to Khao Wong National Park.
