Thai soldier airlifted after stepping on long-buried landmine in Surin
A Thai soldier lost his right leg this morning after stepping on an anti-personnel landmine near the Thai-Cambodian border in Kap Choeng district of Surin province.
The Second Army Region reported that the incident occurred at 6:44am at Chong Rayee, when Pvt. Detsak Treekham, attached to the 233rd Infantry Company of the 3rd Battalion, and his comrades were conducting a routine patrol.
The explosion blew off his right leg and seriously injured his left hand and left leg. He was immediately carried by fellow soldiers to their outpost, where he received first aid before being airlifted by helicopter to Kap Choeng District Hospital for further treatment.
The Second Army Region said the landmine was an old model, buried deep underground and covered with dried leaves.
