Thai-British F1 driver Alex Albon is throwing his full support behind Thailand’s bid to host its first Formula 1 Grand Prix, a move that would solidify the country’s growing presence in world motorsport.

Albon, who has long been a proud ambassador for Thailand on the global racing stage, expressed excitement over recent progress towards a Thai Grand Prix and his determination to help make it a reality.

“I’m super excited to hear about the news of a possible Thai GP,” Albon said. “I know [F1 Chief Executive] Stefano Domenicali was in Thailand a few days ago to meet with the government and discuss the possibility. I’ve been speaking with other F1 drivers, and a lot of them have never been to Thailand before. I’d love to show them the culture, the people, and the food. Maybe even take them to some temples.”

Thailand already hosts top-tier MotoGP motorcycling races, and Albon believes an F1 race would be the next step in expanding the country’s motorsport footprint.

“MotoGP is amazing in Thailand, and I’d love to see Thai people even more involved in the motorsport world. I’ll do whatever I can to get the Thai GP on the grid,” he added.

The 28-year-old Williams driver is making Thailand’s F1 bid a personal priority alongside his racing commitments.

“Apart from the racing, my biggest focus this year is to make the Thai GP a reality for all of us. I’m working with my management to make it happen, and I’ll be coming to Thailand in a few weeks to see what I can do.”

Revving for China & Japan after strong season opener

Beyond his off-track campaigning, Albon is enjoying an impressive start to the 2025 Formula 1 season. After kicking off with a solid fifth-place finish at the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne, he remains determined to build on his momentum.

“It was a very strong start to the 2025 campaign. The only thing that would have made it better is getting that P4. But overall, it was a great weekend for the team and for myself. I’m very proud of everyone,” Albon said.

However, he remains realistic about the challenges ahead amid cut-throat competition on the F1 grid. “Scoring points this year is going to be tough because the top teams are so strong. We have a head start, and I hope to maintain that gap and build on it for the rest of the year.”

Looking ahead to the Chinese Grand Prix which starts this weekend, Albon knows it won’t be easy.

“We want to get into the points. A P9 or P10 finish would be fantastic. But I think Japan will suit our car better. We have an upgrade coming in Japan, and I think it’s going to help us fight from the midfield.”

With only one practice session before sprint qualifying, the upcoming race weekend presents a unique challenge.

“This track is very different from Melbourne, and I don’t expect the car to perform the same way. It’s going to be a quicker track with strong midfield cars. The limited practice time makes it tricky to fine-tune the setup, but I’m excited to see where we stand against our rivals.”

With his focus split between delivering strong results on track and helping push Thailand into the global F1 spotlight, Albon has set the stage for an exciting year both in and out of the cockpit.
