Thailand welcomes Myanmar prisoner amnesty
Thailand welcomed Myanmar’s decision to grant amnesty to more than 4,000 prisoners, including former President Win Myint, calling it a positive step toward national reconciliation.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the amnesty, announced on April 17 to mark the Myanmar New Year, was an encouraging development amid ongoing efforts to ease tensions in the country.
The ministry expressed hope that the move would contribute to confidence-building among all parties and support efforts to restore peace and stability in Myanmar.
Thailand reaffirmed its readiness to support constructive engagement and dialogue among stakeholders, in line with ASEAN-led efforts.
