Two youths in custody over the death of a 7-year-old girl in Kanchanaburi
Two youths have been taken into police custody on suspicion of involvement in the mysterious death of a 7-year-old girl in Sangkhla Buri district of Kanchanaburi province.
The girl, identified as ‘Nong Ar-ngoon’, was reported missing from home in Ban Tee Khrong, Prang Phol sub-district, on May 30. Her body was found on June 1 in a bamboo grove in a rubber plantation, about 600 metres from home.
Police say that the two suspects, a male and a female, are relatives of the victim and are living in the same house.
According to police investigators, the girl is believed to have died at the house from causes yet to be established. The two suspects allegedly hid the body in a closet before carrying by motorcycle and sidecar to the rubber plantation.
More than 30 people, including monks from a nearby monastery, construction workers and the victim’s relatives were questioned by the police, who also took their fingerprints and body fluids for examination.
A press conference is scheduled for this afternoon by the commissioner of the 7th Region Provincial Police Bureau.
