According to Chaiya Huayhongtong, chief of Khao Yai National Park, a group of about 10 tourists, led by a guide, were on the steep second tier of the waterfall when the cliff edge gave way, after absorbing a lot of water due to heavy rainfall over the past few days.
One of the two Filipino tourists who were injured suffered a broken leg. Everyone was evacuated from the area of the waterfall, said to be the largest in the park and which is popular with tourists during the rainy season.
About six years ago, 11 elephants fell to their deaths from the cliff edge into the same waterfall.
