The Meteorological Department has issued a weather warning for south and central Thailand, forecasting heavy rain and gusty winds across much of the country from today until 6am tomorrow.

According to the department's 24-hour forecast, a strengthening southwestern monsoon over the Andaman Sea and the southern region is expected to bring heavy downpours, particularly to the western coast of the southern region.

Central Thailand will continue to experience thunderstorms and gusty winds, with heavy rain anticipated in western provinces. Despite the precipitation, hot weather will persist in some areas during the daytime. Daytime temperatures remain high, potentially reaching 39°C. Thunderstorms and heavy rain are expected to affect 60% of the area, particularly in Kanchanaburi and Ratchaburi.

In the Andaman Sea, waves are expected to reach 1–2 metres, and more than 2 metres during thunderstorms. Mariners are advised to exercise caution and avoid sailing in stormy areas.

In Bangkok and its surrounding provinces, thunderstorms are forecast for 60% of the area, accompanied by occasional gusty winds. Temperatures in the capital are expected to fluctuate between a low of 25°C and a high of 37°C.

The northern region is set to remain hot during the day, though thunderstorms will cover approximately 70% of the area.

Residents of Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai and several other provinces should prepare for heavy rain and gusty winds throughout the period.

The northeast will see similar conditions, with thunderstorms forecast for 60% of the region. Heavy rain is specifically anticipated in Loei, Nong Khai and Nakhon Ratchasima, with temperatures peaking at 36°C.

Meanwhile, the eastern region will see rain over 60% of its territory, with gusty winds likely in Chon Buri, Rayong and Trat.

The southern region is expected to be the hardest hit, with the west coast seeing 70% rain coverage. Heavy downpours are forecast for Ranong, Phang Nga, Phuket, Krabi, Trang and Satun.

On the east coast, rain will cover 60% of the area, with heavy falls expected in Chumphon, Surat Thani and Nakhon Si Thammarat.

The department warned residents to brace for potential flash floods and runoff, especially those living near hillsides and low-lying areas.

Farmers have been advised to secure their fruit trees and protect livestock against the changing conditions.
