Chulalongkorn University student dies in Bangkok road tragedy
The Thai music community is mourning the loss of Pukapon Siribootr, a fourth-year music student at Chulalongkorn University, who died in a tuk-tuk accident during the Songkran festival.
The incident occurred on the evening of April 14, when Pukapon, a Music Education student at the Faculty of Education, and three fellow students from the faculties of medicine and engineering, were travelling by tuk-tuk from Yaowarat Road to Khao San Road to join the Songkran celebrations.
Witnesses said the accident happened when a sedan attempted to overtake the tuk-tuk to make a right turn, but the driver of the three-wheeled vehicle did not yield.
The two vehicles collided, causing the tuk-tuk to overturn, killing Pukapon and seriously injuring his friends.
On April 15, his department issued a statement expressing deep sorrow over the loss. It described him as a dedicated and responsible student who actively contributed to academic and musical activities throughout his studies.
He was a member of the CU Band, the university’s music club, and was known for his kindness. He was well loved by peers and lecturers alike.
His death represents a significant loss to the department and to the future of Thailand’s music scene, the university said, extending condolences and support to his family and loved ones.
Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn has given a royal wreath and is closely monitoring the condition of the injured.
