Sihasak to attend BRICS foreign ministers’ meeting in India tomorrow
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow is scheduled to attend the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (FMM) in New Delhi from May 14–15, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The meeting, hosted by India in its capacity as the 2026 BRICS chair, will be held under the theme “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability.”
Sihasak is expected to advocate for reform of global governance and the multilateral system, emphasizing the need for modernization and inclusivity.
The minister will also highlight the importance of the United Nations and forums such as BRICS in addressing global uncertainties, particularly regarding food and energy security.
Thailand, which became a BRICS partner country in January 2025, aims to use the meeting to strengthen ties with developing nations and address transnational threats in the digital era.
Sihasak is also slated to hold several bilateral meetings with high-level representatives on the sidelines of the meeting.
Originally comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, BRICS currently includes 10 member countries and 10 partner countries, serving as a platform for Global South interests.
