Thais alerted after cartel boss’ death sparks violence in Mexico
The Thai Embassy in Mexico is advising Thai nationals residing in or planning to travel to Mexico to exercise caution and avoid high-risk areas following a surge in violence after the recent death of El Mencho, the leader of the Cártel Jalisco Nueva Generación (CJNG), in a security operation.
The Mexican government’s killing of El Mencho, one of the world’s most wanted drug trafficking kingpins, was followed by violent retaliation from CJNG members, who set vehicles alight, erected roadblocks and attacked security forces in multiple states, prompting a heightened state of security nationwide.
