PM shrugs off Cambodian minister’s remark about Thailand’s election
Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has chosen to ignore the remark by Cambodian senior minister for human rights affairs, Keo Remy, who urged Thais to vote for Pheu Thai or the People’s party “for the sake of peace between Thailand and Cambodia.
In his recent Facebook post, Keo Remy wrote that there would be no more war between Thailand and Cambodia if Anutin is not prime minister and that the Thai army would not go to war without Anutin.
He went on to write that there would be no war if either party wins the general election on February 8th and goes on to form a government, because both parties’ main focus is on economic development.
Commenting on Keo Remy’s remark, the prime responded lightheartedly that the Cambodian minister appears to be a major canvasser, adding that he does not take the minister seriously or consider his words to be interfering in Thailand’s internal affairs.
Anutin wrote that he believes that Thai people can decide by themselves whether to take the Cambodian minister’s words seriously or not. Nonetheless, he said the two parties mentioned by Keo Remy should be more worried than being encouraged.
Plodprasop Suraswadi, a core member of Pheu Thai, did accuse the Cambodian minister of interfering in Thailand’s internal affairs though, as he criticised Anutin for repeating Keo Remy’s remark, describing it as inappropriate.
He did, however, praise Thai Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow for having admonished the Cambodian minister.
