Thai special envoy attends funeral of Iran’s late supreme leader
Thailand attended the funeral of Iran’s late Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in Tehran on July 3, according to the Thai Foreign Ministry.
Parnpree Bahiddha-Nukara, chief advisor to Minister of Foreign Affairs Sihasak Phuangketkeow, participated in the funeral as special envoy of Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul.
He conveyed Thailand’s deepest condolences to the government and people of Iran, expressing sympathy over a profound national loss and underscored longstanding ties between Thailand and Iran.
Khamenei was killed more than four months ago, during US and Israeli strikes at the start of the conflict.
During the visit, Parnpree also held discussions with Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi, focusing on bilateral cooperation and regional developments.
He reiterated Thailand’s hope that the implementation of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, alongside ongoing negotiations over the next 60 days, would contribute to lasting peace and expand economic opportunities between Iran and the international community, including stronger Thailand-Iran economic ties.
Large crowds of black-clad mourners have gathered at Tehran’s Grand Mosalla mosque, where the former leader’s body is lying in state ahead of burial in his hometown of Mashhad on Thursday.
