PM says Thai troops are capable of and ready to deal with Cambodian forces

Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said today that Thai troops are capable and ready to deal with Cambodian forces, as he dismissed any further need to explain Thailand’s position after suspending its commitments under the recently signed joint declaration with Cambodia.

“I will do it my way,” he was quoted to have said, in response to a reporter’s question about whether he would explain the move to Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, adding that all the four commitments are now suspended.

He said that the Thai Foreign Ministry is now in the process of writing a letter of clarification to the Trump administration, in its capacity as a witness to the signing of the joint declaration in Kuala Lumpur last month.

The prime minister also said that he could not disclose what the next step will be against Cambodia, because it is confidential and there are mixed reactions among the Thai public, with one side wishing that Thailand would declare all-out war on Cambodia and another expressing concerns over the expansion of the conflict.
