Navy says ship involved in Gulf of Oman incident not Thai-registered
The Royal Thai Navy has confirmed that a merchant vessel involved in a recent incident in the Gulf of Oman is not Thai-registered, adding that all Thai commercial ships operating in the area remain safe.
Rear Admiral Parach Rattanachiayaphan, the navy’s spokesman, said today that the navy’s operations centre has coordinated with the Thai Maritime Enforcement Command Centre (Thai-MECC) and the Marine Department’s Vessel Traffic Service (VTS) to verify tracking data, following widespread concern on social media that a Thai vessel might have been involved.
The investigation conclusively showed that the ship in question was not flying the Thai flag.
Currently, only one Thai cargo ship is operating in the Gulf of Oman.
Rear Admiral Parach stated that officials have contacted the vessel's safety officers, who confirmed that both the ship and its crew are completely safe, with maritime operations proceeding as scheduled.
The navy is urging the public only to rely on updates from state agencies and credible news sources, reiterating its commitment to monitoring maritime security situations closely and coordinating with relevant authorities to protect Thai vessels and national maritime interests.
