Hun Manet calls for probe into “use of violence” by Thai forces
Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet has condemned what he described as the use of violence by Thai forces that killed a Cambodian civilian and injured three others this evening.
In a Facebook post, Hun Manet called for an independent investigation into the incident.
“I strongly condemn the unprovoked use of violence by the Thai side against innocent Cambodian civilians in Prey Chan village in the afternoon of 12 November 2025, which resulted in injuries to three Cambodian civilians and the tragic loss of one life,” he said.
The Cambodian leader was referring to what Maj Gen Winthai Suvaree, the Thai army spokesman, said to be an exchange of gunfire between Thai and Cambodian forces across the border. Prey Chan village is in Banteay Meanchey province, opposite Sa Kaeo province of Thailand.
Maj Gen Winthai said earlier that Cambodian forces had fired into the Thai territory at Baan Nong Ya Kaew of Sa Kaeo at around 4 pm. He said soldiers of Burapa task force, which oversees security on the Thai eastern border, returned fired in accordance with the rule of engagement.
He said the gunfire exchange lasted about 10 minutes and there were no reports of casualties on the Thai side.
Hun Manet insisted that Cambodia remains steadfast in peaceful resolution in the spirit of the peace accord signed between Thailand and Cambodia in Kuala Lumpur last month.
