Cabinet approves increased subsidies for elderly and disabled

The Cabinet approved, in principle, an increase in the cost of living subsidy for the elderly and disabled today, to a maximum of Bt1,250, from the current Bt1,000.

Currently, people aged from 60 to 69, 70 to 79 and 80 to 90 receive Bt600, Bt700 and Bt800 per month respectively, while those over 90 are entitled to Bt1,000 per month.

If confirmed, the increases would mean that they would receive Bt700, Bt800, Bt1,000 and Bt1,250 respectively. Disabled people, meanwhile, would receive Bt1,000 per month, up from Bt800.

Under the current system, families who have children aged up to six and an annual income not exceeding Bt100,000 receive a monthly subsidy of Bt600 per child. This is under review.

Furthermore, if confirmed, free education will be extended to cover children up to 15 years old. The Education, Social Development and Human Security ministries, as well as the Ministry of digital Economy and Society, would be jointly responsible for the management of educational.
