Thai PM arrives in France, Macron meeting set for Monday
Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul arrived in France on Friday morning for an official visit aimed at boosting energy security, increasing the presence of Thai culture on the global stage and strengthening economic ties, according to Government Spokesperson Rachada Dhnadirek.
The Prime Minister and his delegation arrived at Paris Orly Airport at 7.55am local time today.
The delegation includes Finance Minister Ekniti Nitithanprapas, Minister of Foreign Affairs Sihasak Phuangketkeow, Culture Minister Sabeeda Thaised and Secretary General to the Prime Minister Traisuree Traisoranakul.
Rachada outlined the Prime Minister’s itinerary, noting that his first scheduled engagements on Friday involve key talks with the heads of international organisations.
Anutin will meet with the Director of the International Energy Agency (IEA) to discuss promoting national energy security. Following this, he will hold talks with the Director General of UNESCO, to build on previous cooperation and push for a greater role for Thai culture globally.
Tomorrow, the prime minister will preside over a Buddhist chanting and alms-giving ceremony dedicated to the royal merit of Queen Rambhai Barni at the International Buddhist Temple, where he will also meet members of the expat Thai community.
Later that day, Anutin is scheduled to meet with Thai private sector representatives investing in France, specifically those in the food processing, sustainable packaging/recycling and restaurant industries.
On Sunday, he will attend a meeting with Thai Ambassadors and Consuls-General stationed across Europe to exchange views and discuss implementation strategies for the Cabinet’s policies in the European context.
The economic push will continue on Monday morning, when Anutin meets with Le Mouvement des Entreprises de France (MEDEF International), the French business confederation. This will be followed by discussions with French private sector leaders in key industries, including basic materials, medical devices, optics and aerospace.
The highlight of the visit will take place on Monday evening, when French President Emmanuel Macron will host a dinner reception for Anutin at the Élysée Palace (Palais de l’Élysée).
The two leaders will hold talks aimed at driving bilateral relations and cooperation between Thailand and France.
The Prime Minister and his delegation are scheduled to conclude their official visit and depart France on Tuesday, arriving back in Thailand on Wednesday morning.
