Curfew imposed in five districts of Trat province
The Chanthaburi-Trat Task Force has imposed a 9pm-5am curfew in five districts of Thailand’s easternmost province of Trat, effective from today until further notice, after three M79 grenades were fired at a Thai marine base. There were no casualties reported.
The task force said that the grenades are believed to have been fired from within Thai territory, hence the need for a curfew to prevent all individuals living in Muang, Klong Yai, Bo Rai, Laem Ngop and Khao Saming from leaving their residences at night.
Anyone who needs to leave their residence between these hours can seek permission from the military, the police or local officials.
Martial law has also been imposed on the five districts, under which authorities have the power to detain any individuals or to search and person, vehicle or structure suspected of posing a threat to security.
Rear Admiral Parach Rattanachaipan, spokesperson for the Royal Thai Navy, said today that the Thai marines have managed to reclaim most of Ban Sam Lang and Ban Nong Ree, in Cham Rak sub-district of Muang district, Trat province, following heavy fighting with Cambodian troops.
The Thai Marines have hoisted the Thai national flag over the area as a symbol of Thai sovereignty.
He said, however, that sporadic fighting continues in the area around Ban Nong Ree, as Cambodian troops try to take back the lost territory.
Meanwhile, the Second Army Region provided a summary of Thai military operations in the northeastern provinces between December 8th and yesterday.
The Thai troops have destroyed 10 Cambodian tanks, 64 drones, one BM-21 multiple rocket launcher system (MRLS), four anti-drone towers, four anti-aircraft guns and six mortars. About 181 Cambodian soldiers are believed to have been killed.
Fighting raged throughout yesterday on most battle fronts in the northeastern provinces of Ubon Ratchathani, Si Sa Ket, Surin and Buri Ram, according to the Second Army Region.
