Chadchart still favourite in Bangkok governor race, KPI poll shows

Former Bangkok governor Chadchart Sittipunt remains ahead of the pack of gubernatorial hopefuls in the election in Bangkok on June 28, according to an opinion poll conducted by the King Prajadhipok’s Institute (KPI).

KPI gauged the opinions of 1,600 people, aged 18 and over, in Bangkok between May 22 and 25.

Asked for whom they will vote for governor of Bangkok, the poll shows 31.5% of the respondents will vote for Chadchart, 13.1% for People’s party’s candidate Chaiwat Sathawornwichit, 7.5% for independent candidate Dr. Mallika Boonmeetrakool Mahasook, 6.6% for Pol Lt-Col Charnthep Sesavech of the New Economics party, 6.2% for independent candidate M.L. Kornkasiwat Kasemsri, 6.1% for independent candidate Komsan Phanwichatikul and 4.9% for Democrat candidate Anucha Burapachaisri. 24.1% are still undecided.

Compared to last gubernatorial election in 2022, it was clear from the poll that 60.7% of the voters who voted for Chadchart say that they will vote for him again. 45.5% of those who voted for Sakoltee Phattiyakul, 31% who voted for Suchatvee Suwansawat and 22.9% who used to vote for Pol Gen Aswin Kwanmuang will now vote for Chadchart. 49.2% who voted for Wiroj Lakkhanaadisorn of People’s party last time will vote for Chaiwat of the same party.

For the election of city councilors, 41.6% of the respondents said they will vote for independent candidates, 20% for candidates from opposition parties, 17.6% said they could vote for candidates of any party and 3.6% said they will vote for candidates from government parties.

The poll also shows that Chadchart still enjoys support from voters have previously backed city council candidates from government and opposition parties.
