Navy rescues seven after fishing boat sinks in stormy Samae San Bay
Seven crew members, including the boat’s owner, were safely rescued by the Royal Thai Navy after their fishing vessel capsized in rough seas off Samae San Bay in Sattahip district in Chon Buri province on Wednesday night.
The incident occurred near Yung Kluea Island during severe weather and in rough seas, leaving the crew stranded in open waters.
The Royal Thai Navy launched a search and rescue operation immediately after being alerted by the Samae San Marine Department. A patrol boat was dispatched to the coordinates, successfully pulling all seven individuals from the water and bringing them back to Samae San pier unharmed.
An emotional scene unfolded at the pier as the boat owner’s daughter ran to embrace her father, expressing immense gratitude to the naval officers, local fishermen and all agencies involved in the swift rescue mission.
The boat’s owner recounted that the vessel had set out on a routine fishing trip when powerful waves struck the boat beam-on, causing it to take on water rapidly and sink. The crew had to rely on life jackets and they drifted in the heavy seas while desperately awaiting help.
Following the incident, the Samae San Marine Department issued an advisory to all local mariners to monitor weather forecasts regularly. Boat operators have also been urged to exercise extreme caution or remain ashore during this period to prevent further maritime accidents.
