Khao Kheow Zoo unveils its clouded leopard in new exhibit

Khao Kheow Open Zoo has officially launched a new exhibit featuring ‘Nong Nueng’, an eight-year-old female clouded leopard and social media favourite, to promote public awareness and education on rare wildlife behaviours.

Zoo director Narongwit Chodchoi said that the exhibit, located in the botanical section of the zoo, gives visitors chance to get a close-up look at the species while learning about its natural habits.

The clouded leopard (Neofelis nebulosa) is a protected species, easily recognised by its distinctive dusky-grey coat markings. An agile climber, the medium-sized predator plays a vital role in maintaining the balance of forest ecosystems across Asia.

Narongwit said the display supports wildlife conservation and highlights the importance of biodiversity, giving the public an opportunity to observe rare animals in a well-managed environment.

He added that the zoo remains committed to serving as an educational centre for nature lovers of all ages, operating alongside its ongoing conservation, research and breeding programs for endangered species.

To celebrate King Maha Vajiralongkorn’s birthday on July 28, entry to the zoo will be free for children aged up to 12 or under 135 centimetres in height for one day only.

The single-day event will feature a lineup of family activities, including mascot parades, hands-on learning experiences and a special night zoo tour for evening visitors.

Located in Si Racha, Chonburi, this large zoo covers an area of nearly 800 hectares and contains more than 8,000 animals of more than 300 species. It is the second largest zoo in Asia.
