Thailand stays in Tier 2 of US trafficking report for fifth year
Thailand remains a Tier 2 country in the United States’ 2026 Trafficking in Persons (TIP) Report for the fifth consecutive year, with the US acknowledging progress in the kingdom’s efforts to combat human trafficking, according to the Thai Foreign Ministry.
The report was released by the US Department of State yesterday (Thailand time) and assesses the human trafficking situation in 188 countries and territories worldwide.
The ministry said the progress included increased funding for anti-trafficking activities, investigations and prosecutions of officials allegedly involved in human trafficking, and assistance for victims and potential victims.
It also highlighted international cooperation in repatriating foreign victims fleeing online scam centres in neighbouring countries, as well as the establishment of an interagency law enforcement centre to combat online scams.
“Combating human trafficking is a national priority for Thailand,” the ministry said, adding that government agencies across all sectors had worked together to improve their effectiveness in protecting both Thai and non-Thai nationals in the country. These efforts, it said, were being carried out in accordance with human rights and humanitarian principles.
The government has also stepped up measures against transnational criminal organisations, particularly those involved in trafficking people into forced criminality at scam centres, the statement said.
Thailand remains fully committed to sustaining its anti-trafficking efforts and strengthening international cooperation to tackle human trafficking and transnational crime, the ministry added.
It described the fight against these crimes as a shared interest and common goal of Thailand, the United States and the international community.
